A seventeen year old boy named Arios is the last living heir to the secret of forging steel in the lands of Luwiya in 2000 BCE . He learned the secret from his father, Demetrios who he served as an apprentice to.

His life is upended when a brutal warlord named Kazandre burns his village to the ground because his father refuses to reveal the secret of steel. Arios, his mother and his siblings flee the village and start a new life in Achaea in the village of Vradeto located high atop a high mountainous plateau.

When Kazandre learns that Demetrios has a son who knows the secret of steel, he sends Lykon, one of his best spies to Achaea to try and locate Arios and learn the secret of steel.

Lykon locates Arios, and meets his family, and his attitudes and his feelings change. He no longer wishes to betray Arios, but Lykon's past won't let go of him.

Kazandre and his army marches upon Vradeto, and Arios and Lykon must use all of their cunning to prepare the villagers for war and to face the overwhelming numbers of Kazandre's army.

Will Arios, Lykon and the villagers be able to defeat Kazandre and his army, or will Kazandre finally seize the secret of steel?
